Job Description

Dis-Chem Pharmacies has an opportunity available for a Macro Space Planner who will build and maintain department-level macro layouts and category space allocations across Dis-Chem store formats. Reporting to the Macro Space Planning Lead, the role converts approved macro principles, adjacency guidance and commercial priorities into accurate store-ready macro space outputs that support sales productivity, customer flow, revamps and new stores.

Minimum Requirements…

  • Bachelor’s degree in Retail Management, Business, Analytics or a related field OR1–2 years’ experience in space planning, retail analytics, category planning or merchandising roles.
  • Experience with space planning software, planograms and retail data systems advantageous.

Job Specification…

Strategy& value delivery

  • Build and update macro space layouts across store formats, sizes, regions, new stores and revamps.
  • Apply approved department and category space allocations using sales, margin, growth, customer flow and operational inputs.
  • Prepare layout options and flag opportunities to improve productivity, adjacencies and execution.

Leadership and collaboration

  • Work with the Macro Space Planning Lead to deliver approved briefs, layouts and allocation changes.
  • Partner with Space Planning, Category, Retail Operations, Property and New Stores to gather inputs and resolve layout issues.
  • Provide clear macro space outputs, notes and handover packs for micro space planning and store execution.

Governance and risk

  • Maintain accurate versions of macro layouts, briefs and allocation files.
  • Check layouts against approved planning principles, adjacency rules and store standards.
  • Highlight risks relating to space constraints, customer flow, operational feasibility and execution complexity.

Key Competencies

  • Strong analytical capability in retail space and category performance.
  • Understanding of store formats, department adjacencies, customer flow and operational requirements.
  • Ability to translate data and briefs into practical macro layouts.
  • Attention to detail, version control and clear communication.

Key performance indicators

  • Macro space effectiveness – Sales per square metre, category productivity and alignment to allocation principles.
  • Execution quality – Accuracy, consistency and usability of macro layouts and briefs.
  • Delivery effectiveness – Timely delivery of layouts for new stores, revamps and commercial priorities.
  • Handover quality – Clear outputs enabling micro space planning and store execution.
